Social Security & RFC Medical Reviews: Scope and Cost
A written medical opinion and a requested RFC form are not always the same deliverable. Here is how to choose the right records-based review without buying more—or less—than you need.
What is an RFC medical opinion?
Residual functional capacity (RFC) concerns what a person can still do despite limitations. Social Security assesses RFC using the relevant medical and other evidence. A clinician’s opinion about supported functional limitations can be part of that evidence; it is not the agency’s final decision.
A request might ask a physician to explain documented limitations or complete a particular physical or mental function form. Before commissioning a review, identify the exact question, form and intended recipient. A general letter saying someone is disabled is not the same as answering specific functional questions.

Is this an appointment or a records review?
Valor coordinates a review of existing medical records—not an in-person examination, telemedicine appointment, new diagnosis or treatment. The reviewer considers the supplied evidence and may request clarification through the case team. We cannot promise a favorable conclusion or that a requested form can be completed from insufficient records.
Keep any examination or appointment requested by Social Security. Our review does not replace it. Ask your representative which medical question or document would be useful for your specific claim; Valor does not provide legal representation or guarantee benefits.
Does the $899 standard review cover Social Security?
Yes, when the request fits the standard scope: one condition or focused medical question, readiness review and one physician’s written opinion when advancement is recommended. The same standard path serves fitting VA and non-VA requests. Records can follow after payment.
A specific RFC form is not automatically included. Multiple forms, physical and mental reviews, multiple reviewers or other deliverables need scope confirmation and may require a custom quote. Send the requested form and describe the work before paying if you are unsure.
Custom quotes state the agreed deliverables, price and refund terms. We do not silently add charges or change an existing agreement. See standard review pricing and the standard refund policy; a custom offer may have different agreed terms.
What should I send to get the right scope?
- The question or requested form. Tell us whether you need a written opinion, a particular form, or separate physical and mental assessments.
- The intended use and deadline. Include instructions from your representative or the requesting organization. We confirm availability rather than promise an unreviewed deadline.
- What records are available. Tell us whether you have relevant treatment records, test results and previous evaluations. Use the secure intake route for records; you do not need to put medical details in an ordinary inquiry email.
You do not need every record gathered to start a fitting standard review. Physician review happens after the file is prepared and readiness is addressed—not simply because payment was made.
